book review:
Over the past few weeks I have read the 169 page long book baboon by David Jones the book was published in Toronto in 2007 by annick print. On a one to five star rating I would rate this book three stars. I would compare this book with the kite rider. The kite rider and baboon have a lot of similar things and a lot of different things that are similar. The thing that the similar in baboon and kite rider are: in the kite rider haouyou losses his father and in baboon Gerry also loses his father for a while. In the kite rider haouyou travels with the circus and in baboon Gerry travels with the troop. In the kite rider haouyou has a talent of being a kite rider and in baboon Gerry has a human brain and he can make weapons to kill people. The difference between baboon and kite rider are: baboon happens in Africa and kite rider happens in China. Another difference is that the kite rider happens in the old days and baboon happens in new times. Kite rider is 200 pages long and baboon is only 169 pages long. Baboon is written by David Jones and baboon is written by Gloria Whalen. The book baboon is told in a first person point of view. The setting of the book baboon is in the African savannas. In the book baboon there are many conflicts here are 2 examples. One example of conflict in the book is loather against Gerry the conflict happens when loather always bullies Gerry and he always gets mad at him. Loather bully’s baboon by taking his food and trying to kill him or get him out of the troop. This conflict is resolved when baboon makes a sort of sling shoot and shoots Luther with a stone so he dies. this conflict is a man vs. Animal conflict. Another conflict that is in the book is Gerrys problem of finding food. This conflict is a man vs. Nature. Gerry doesn’t know what he should eat because he has no idea if it could kill him. Gerry needs to see what other baboons are eating so he knows what is good for him and what is not. Gerry has a problem with this throughout the whole book and Gerry is never full he always wants to eat more. Gerry is the main character in baboon because Gerry is the main character he has a lot of character traits. One character trait Gerry has is that he is very intelligent. An example of Gerry being intelligent is that when he needed to make a weapon to defend himself he made a tomahawk by taping a stone to a stick. In the book baboon I liked the parts where baboon starts being liked by the troop and is getting ranked higher. The part I don’t like in the book is the finish of the book I don’t think it is a good ending cause it didn’t make a lot of scene that Gerry became a human again after he was eaten by a leapord.
