Title of book: Baboon Author: David Jones No. of Pages: 169 Publisher: Annick Press,Toronto. Published: 2007
Rate the book on a scale of 1-5. I would give this book a 3. Baboon can really put pictures in your head and it has great characterization. But what I really don’t like about this book is the story itself. I don’t see the logic in how a plane crash can transfer a human brain to a primate’s brain. But Besides the logic, David Jone has created a great set of characters, each baboon with his own personality.
Baboon Description Baboon is a third person omniscient point of view book. It takes place in the African Savanna and probably takes place in Modern Times. There are a lot of conflicts in this book but I’m going to talk about 2 of them. One of them is an internal and the other one is an external. The Internal Conflict is the one that Gerry is having with himself. He wants to turn back into a human, but is also ready to accept that he might stay a Baboon for the rest of his life. The external conflict is the difference he had with Lothar. There were many times where Lothar would attack Gerry. But that conflict was resolved when Gerry finished off Lothar. Lothar is a very disturbed Baboon. He is the “troops bully” and he would take any chance to attack someone if they did something to provoke him.
Compare this book to another one you have read this year. Baboon I thought was better than a lot of the books we have read this year. But I think that Kite Rider was better than Baboon. I liked the logic in the book and that the main character, Haoyou, did not have any supernatural events occurring to him. Unlike in Baboon, where a plane crash transplants a humans brain with a baboons is rather eerie. But besides that, both of the book had a great touch of characters, you could really tell how the characters felt and thought.
